In Artisan 5, cutting precise shapes is easy because of the two step selection + cutting process. In this video, we’ll examine how and when to use this process and why it is so valuable.
Objectives:
Shape Cutter
- Understand how selection tools work - Understand the difference between selecting and cutting - Understand how to use the options available to choose the exact area you want to cut Add a paper to the page and select it
- Cut ribbon > (selection section) > shape
- Notice that the select and cut/copy buttons are grayed out (not live) - In Operations panel, change shape by clicking down arrow and choosing new shape - Choose rectangle and click ‘select shape’ - Position shape as desired on paper and click select - Look at the selection section of the cut ribbon – notice that the deselect and cut/copy buttons are live now - To begin again, choose deselect - Choose cut/copy - In Operations panel, notice choices available - Selected area = area inside the shape you chose - Unselected area = area outside the shape you chose - Copy = a new shape is created and the full paper remains as is - Cut = a new shape is cut out of the paper, leaving new shape and remaining portion of paper - Choose copy - Notice that selection area stays live after copying - In Operations panel, choose a different shape - Notice Region section in Operations Panel - left box – will replace current shape with the new shape - middle box – will add the new shape to the current shape - right box – will remove the new shape from the current shape
Lasso and wand tools work similarly
Wand tool
Add a paper to the page that has very specific colored areas (like a multi-colored polka dot pattern)
Cut ribbon > (selection section) > wand
In Operations panel, notice the Selection Scope
- Brush – allows you to pick up matching pixels as you brush over them - Adjacent – selects only matching pixels that are touching matching pixels - All – selects all matching pixels in the entire element In the Operations panel, notice the Region
- Clear – remove all selected - Invert – change to select all but what you had selected originally - Expand – picks up an extra pixel all around the current selection - Contract – removes an extra pixel all around the current selection
Cut and Copy tools work the same way as they did with the shape cutter.
