Objectives: Space elements evenly on a page and space elements between two fixed points.
To space elements evenly on a page:
Add the same embellishment to your page three times, using the green alignment trackers to position them in a horizontal line
Holding the shift key, select all of the elements
In the QAT (Quick Access Toolbar)
- Alignment section > choose the 7th button (reposition the selected elements so they are evenly spaced horizontally) The first and second elements on the left did not move, and the remaining element moved until it was the same distance from the second element as the second element was from the first. This is how the spacing alignment tool works.
- Add two more elements to the line of three - Hold the shift key and select all five elements - Using the same alignment tool on the QAT, space the elements evenly horizontally
Again, the two elements to the left remained stationary and the other three moved until they were evenly spaced based on the space between the two elements on the left.
When aligning elements vertically, the process is exactly the same:
- Holding the shift key, select all five elements - QAT > Alignment section >use the 8th button (reposition the selected elements so they are evenly spaced vertically)
The top two elements remained in position and the other three moved accordingly. This is how it will always work when spacing things vertically.
IMPORTANT: When using the spacing tool, place the first two elements (from the left or from the top) where you want them. The other elements will be spaced that same distance apart.
To space elements evenly between two fixed points:
First, space elements as evenly as possible by eyeballing them and then using the QAT to space them as described above
With all elements still selected > right click > group > right click > lock aspect ratio
Drag one corner of the grouped element until it lines up the way you want. Voila!
