Love & Laughter: Memories Near and Far

By Patt Matsen

In quiet moments of reflection, it’s often the simplest memories that tug most at our hearts. Recently, I had an old wedding reel of my husband and me digitized. As I pressed play, the screen came alive with our youthful faces, full of joy and laughter, as we fed each other cake. I could almost hear the echoes of our happiness and feel the carefree days of our early love.

Fast forward to just last year: I found myself setting up my phone’s camera, hoping to capture a slice of our life together once more. This time, it was my husband’s laughter that filled the room. I don’t even remember what he was laughing about, but his joy was infectious.

Although he passed away last May, I wanted to preserve his vibrant spirit. That recent video, with his contagious laughter, brings a smile to my face even in his absence. Watching both videos back-to-back, I'm struck by how love and laughter have always been intertwined in our story. Together, they created a beautiful tapestry of memories that time cannot diminish.

Though he is no longer here, his spirit lives on in every joyful moment we shared. Even in sorrow, laughter becomes a gentle reminder that love never truly fades.
